A visit to Penang Pesta

Over the weekend, we visited Penang Carnival (Pesta). This is my return to the site for not going in about twenty years. oh my. Kids and adults alike are having lots of fun playing in the fun park. Hubby says it's like time returning to the seventies eighties. Indeed.

Air Supply is still in the air

For the past weeks, I was very busy meeting datelines for kids school's scrapbook projects. We submitted two, one is the duplication of another, same project title about 'caring' and the same person that do it,  my brain couldn't switch from one idea to another within the same period of time. I've tried my best, but always not-enough-time! But we won, at the fifth in one of the participations. phew...! ^_^ 

Also, my recent favorite tv series was just ended - Princess Meili, it has sad but touching storyline. I recommended it to a few friends which I've spoken to lately, if you appreciate Mandarin and those emperor dynasty, it may be a choice of entertainment. 

Besides, as the teacher of my children, this period of time in schooling is pretty stressful. Stressful in the way that hopefully they could remember what I've revised with them and not answering exam questions in an upside down manner, the younger little R of mine tend to make this type of mistakes. Then, come back from school asking me why I didn't teach him about that answer, *scratch-head* it puzzled me. I know it could be as stressful for them, that's why in our house, Air Supply is still in the air!

Ribbons pillow

Recent made - kids pillow with ribbons.
Wanting to have this cotton animal print seen everywhere (which I love), I sewed a smaller pillow case to be paired with this pillow (below). I think with these two lovely softies, it's cozy enough either for kids afternoon nap or bring along in the car.

Besides this, I upcycled a lace top for the shop.

Sewing has been slow recently, as kids are advancing in their grades level, I'm putting more time to coach and tutor them more academically. Having said that, I'll have to squeeze time out of busyness to keep the creative juice flowing in handmade.

Fly little birds, fly!

I posted this pretty late from the previous post, the birdies actually are able to fly the next day from my previous post in which our estimation is quite precise from the fact. Once their feather are fully covered the body, which means they're ready to leave their nest and fly. These were the last incredible sights and moments we managed to capture before they left. We're not sad, just feel a little reluctant, but it's a good thing for them. At the same time, feel very blessed and thankful to the birdies for choosing our pine tree as their nesting ground thus providing wonderful experience in raising these littlest. Fly little birds, fly...

Two new birdies

These few weeks, we're keeping the progress on these two new birdies. There are, their parents in pair, feeding, guarding them day and night. My kids who seems so afraid that they would die in hunger, feed the birdies with leftover rice from the kitchen, lol. Whereas the daddy of my house every morning before starting work surely would take a peep at the birds and keep recording the movement of the bird several times in a week. Obviously they are much more enthusiastic than me towards these new members. Whenever I see the adult bird approaching the nest, and even before I able to snap a picture them, they left. It surely serve as an interesting and exciting educational experience for the kids and the adult alike. 

World Children Day

Last weekend was World Children Day. Over here in Penang, we had a great time celebrating with children at MPPP Park. It was part of a charity event whereby tickets are needed to purchase food and products on sale. It was totally a surprise invitation from a friend of mine, ML. She handed the tickets to me as she and family were unable to attend in an impromptu situation. Everybody seems enjoying their full cup of KokoKrunch in fresh cold milk. Yum yum...
There were horses and I'm specially fond of them. I think I was thrilled as much as the kids ; )
 

Leave print bookmark

Completed two scrapbooks to be passed up in a week is a heavy task for a mum. On the other hand, it put my artistic side into good use whilst having really limited time for sit and think. I've included a few leave prints into the books under Go Green section. Because of not having enough leaves in the study room, we make more today and included a Chinese poem at the back of each leave. Memorizing these poems for a grade 2 student is another big task, oh gosh. But learning should be fun instead of painstaking, right? And I'm hoping to see that 'fun' taking place soon. Keep fingers crossed.
But as I see those leaves, I'm getting like'in it ; ) art and craft project from nature thing is inspiring. Also, this is the shape of collar in this kebaya dress, the sirih shape.

Randomness

We visited our reservoir recently at Air Itam. I have a fond memory of this place, maybe because this is the very first picnic site my family had introduced to me since I was two or three years old. And now, occasionally I bring my children and hubby to this lovely place, bringing along some snacks and drinks to spend the whole morning here listening to the sound of nature, breathing the fresh air. Some otters could be spotted in the middle of the dam if you're lucky!

Oh yes, the Peter Pan collar shirt is still in the process of jazzing up. I need to pick up the concentration to complete a w.i.p. custom made baju kurung that has seen no progress for the past three days. gosh. I'm in weekend mode, rest is much needed for now. Happy weekending... : )

A zipper pouch and books

 

  

 I made this 8" x 5" flat bottom zippered pouch this morning. The fabric cut out supposed meant for an extra-large pencil case, that's why it has got two-pencil print. Somehow, I think we (me & my kids) needed a craft pouch more than a pencil case, so that we can keep our increasing craft utensils in it. My sewing notions captured in the picture are for illustration only, all will be taken out and hand over to my crafty baby. Maybe I shall make a few more, I probably would need one as my cosmetics pouch, another as my toiletries pouch, and another as sewing its and bits pouch... just to name a few and definitely it would help me to get organized... : P

In another note, our books have arrived after much waiting. Kids can't wait any longer to get the parcel open and read the books first-hand. The mummy was as excited as the children to take the first peek at all those books. oh,... I love books!

Randomness

"Mummy, how tired are you?" My elder boy asks. Obviously they are too much influenced by the computer game...But, he did this drawing entirely on his own, file saved under 'bmp', yes, a big file. Then send a mail to me with this picture attached and asked me to check on my mailbox. He gets what I teach him. Keep fingers crossed.

My younger boy is practicing to use chopsticks - one of the good things to learn and the coolest way to eat regardless of race and age.

PS - I'm finishing my flap-over shirt that should be done soon. Do check back to see how it turn out in a day or two.

Randomness

The scene at home when the cake just came out from the oven, right after dinner. Just nice with a dollop of vanilla ais-cream.

I let the kids get the feel of applying nail polish onto their toenails under close supervision. We chose toenails so that there won't be any problem the next day when they go to school : P
'the kids said: "look at my rainbow toenails..." Dad said: "aiyerrr.... geli lah..." '

Besides that, I'm working on a new pair of dress for my sewing project, namely 'cheongsam' using a Japanese printed natural cotton. Design, pattern and fabric have been done and cut out, just need some time to sew all the pieces together. I'm not sure whether it will be ready by Chinese New Year, but it should be tentatively.

Functioning woven bag

Sometimes when my home is full of this woven bags, I don't know what to do with it especially when it is printed with some specific name of the event. It's kind of embarrassing if you carry it along right? So, my kids and I thought of this potato print project to transform this whole bag into a new functional yet artful shopping bag.


We measured the size of the printed logo on the woven bag, then cut a piece of plain fabric that will be used to cover the whole printing area. Then, we started to work on the fabric by geting the kids to paint some arcylic paint onto their cut potato or apple, then stamp it over the right side of the fabric that will also be used as the front pocket of the bag.




After the paint dried, I overedge sewn the fabric and hand stitched with arty saturday wording before actually machine sewn it onto the bag. Now, I would happily let my kids carry along this newly converted shopping bag whenever we go to shop ; )
